Morphea with features of lichen sclerosus et atrophicus at the site of a herpes zoster scar: another case of an isotopic response. Int J Dermatol. 2005;44:524-5 suggests the existence of a link between the 2. We think the connection could lie in the existence of an individual genetic predisposition to lichen sclerosus et atrophicus, where greater vulnerability to certain keratinocyte clones and the presence of environmental factors like viral herpes infections, could be responsible for the unusual clinical presentation of the lesions in our patient.

Morphological evidence of periodical exacerbation of hyperkeratosis lenticularis perstans.

We present a case of hyperkeratosis lenticularis perstans (Flegel's disease) in a 71-year-old-woman. Apart from all the typical morphological features of the disease, we evidenced mounds of parakeratosis that contained neutrophils, alternating with other strata of the horny layers in which no infiltrate was seen. Such a pattern has been described in association with diseases that show a periodi...

A Case of Infantile Kyrle-Flegel Disease in a 6-Year-Old Yemeni Girl

Kyrle disease (KD) and Flegel disease (FD) are rare variants of primary perforating dermatoses, characterized by transepidermal elimination of abnormal endogenous materials. We describe a 6-year-old Yemeni girl with a 2-year history of generalized asymptomatic, small, reddish-brown keratotic papules with a lenticular central keratotic plug. Although these features are synonymous with FD, the hi...

The effect of elevated temperature on the toxicity of the laboratory cultured dinoflagellate Ostreopsis lenticularis (Dinophyceae).

Ostreopsis lenticularis Fukuyo 1981, is the major benthic dinoflagellate vector implicated in ciguatera fish poisoning in finfish on the southwest coast of Puerto Rico. Clonal laboratory cultures of O. lenticularis (clone 301) exposed to elevated temperatures (30-31 degrees C) for 33 and 54 days showed significant increases in the quantity of extractable toxin they produced as compared to their...
